Oregon holly grape
Mahonia aquifolium
The Oregon holly grape (Mahonia aquifolium) is used mainly for its ornamental value. Its prickly and shiny foliage persists exceptionally in the shade until December or takes on beautiful reddish colors in the fall in the sun. Its yellow flowers brighten up dark places.
The tangy fruit has very little flesh and should be eaten very sparingly. Almost as big as a blackcurrant and in a large bouquet that is more than decorative, it is easy to harvest.
