Sea buckthorn 'Aley' (male)
Hippophae rhamnoides
Sea buckthorn ‘Aley’ or Aleï’ (Hippophae rhamnoides) is a prolific and thornless pollinator whose flowers tolerate extreme cold, recommended for pollinating ‘Chuyskaya‘. The male produces the pollen. The female bears the fruits. For optimal yields, the male pollen, dispersed by the wind, fertilizes at least 6 females, depending on the planting pattern which must respect a maximum spacing of 30 meters between the male and the most distant female, and possibly on the direction of the prevailing winds.
Its vigorous suckering requires some control, especially since its thorns are aggressive. Sea buckthorn ‘Aley’ tolerates pollution and salt spray. Nitrogen fixer.
