Also known as “American leek,” the daylily burnt orange (sunset) (Hemerocallis fulva) is a force of nature that blooms profusely. Its slender leaves and burnt orange flowers are quickly renewed after harvesting. Its peppery flower buds give way to blossoms that can be stuffed on the day of harvest, much like zucchini in Italy.
The tubers can be boiled or enjoyed raw for their pleasant nutty flavor.
