Elecampane
Inula helenium
1,5 m       1 m      Hardiness zone 4

A little punk, very spacious, crowned with solar flowers adored by bees, with radiant petals in summer, the elecampane (Inula helenium) invites birds on its high perched stems. The leaves, containing a certain bitterness, were used in Roman times to flavor dishes. You can transform the sweet root into confectionery suitable for diabetics. It prefers moist, rich and deep soils, tolerates slightly acidic soils and can invade by reseeding itself in all winds.
