European beech 'Red Obelisk'
Fagus sylvatica
The European beech ‘Red Obelisk’(Fagus sylvatica) was introduced mainly for the purple color of its edible foliage, from spring to autumn, diversifying the colors of our landscapes but also of our mixed salads, among others.
Appreciation of their sweet flavor is limited to the tender young leaves, which grow in spring and midsummer.
Two three-week productions for a total of six weeks of colorful lettuces, a welcome replacement for red lettuce in your mescluns, which never keeps long enough.
European Beech ‘Red Obelisk’ can be planted in sun or shade, in dry or moist, acid to alkaline soil.
