The fragrant sumanc ‘Grow-Low’ (Rhus aromatica) is a low selection of staghorn sumac. Noted for its glossy orange-red foliage in fall, and sometimes for its perceptive olfactory appearance when rubbed, this shrubby ground cover suitable for erosion control and bank stabilization spreads rapidly with rapid suckering, effectively occupying slopes and banks, even in poor and acidic soils, tolerating drought. Pruning to limit its expansion would be the only maintenance required. Native for riparian strips.
