Jostaberry 'Josta'
Ribes nidigrolaria
The jostaberry ‘Josta’ (Ribes nidigrolaria) is a hybrid between the blackcurrant and the redcurrant. Combining the best of both, the blackcurrant retains the sweetness of the redcurrant, stripped of its usual thorns. The result of the cross invites you to enjoy it fresh.
The ribes family kicks off with its buds eager to burst into exciting green, expected in spring. Ribes need moisture to irrigate their fruits, refreshing in summer. Sometimes fearing heat that can harm fruit setting, they find a balance in a shaded environment, preferring a rich and very fresh soil, minimally covered with a biodegradable mulch that will limit evaporation and retain runoff rain.
For those whose production of stone and pome fruits or vegetable growing occupies every sunny plot, what luck to grow such delicious fruits in the shade, optimizing every square meter of land!
The jostaberry ‘Josta’ is partially self-fertile.
