Pear trees are generally easier to grow than other commercial fruits and are a good choice for heavy clay soils. The pear tree ‘Krazulya’ standard (Pyrus communis x Pyrus ussuriensis) is pollinated by ‘Ure’ or another Siberian pear (Pyrus ussuriensis).
It produces an early harvest. The small, round pear is larger and even more flavorful than ‘Ure’. Harvested while still green with a small red blush, it ripens to yellow with a large red cheek when ready to enjoy. Its melting, juicy, and sweet flesh also reveals a spicy aroma with touches of acidity and astringency.
In Russian, “Krazulya” means beauty, and its name reflects not only the fruit but also its vibrant red autumn color. The pear tree ‘Krazulya’ standard is productive, though the fruit doesn’t store for long. However, it is one of the best varieties for dehydration.
