Peartree 'Loma'
Pyrus communis
9 m       6 m      Hardiness zone 3

Pear trees(pyrus communis) are generally easier to grow than other commercial fruits, a good choice for heavy clay soils. They are less susceptible to insects and require less pruning for maintenance. The ‘Loma’ pear tree is partially self-pollinating. Early harvest. No susceptibility to disease.

Small to medium-sized, round and flattened, with shades of red on a green background, pears are refreshingly thick-skinned and astringent, revealing juicy, melting flesh with a hint of acidity balanced by a high sugar content. Bursting with a surprising fragrance. Will keep for up to a month, gaining sugar and losing a little acidity and astringency over time.

The ‘Loma’ pear tree was discovered in Grande-Baie, Saguenay.
