Peartrees (Pyrus communis) are generally easier to grow than other commercial fruits and are a good choice for heavy clay soils. The pear tree ‘Summercrisp’ produces abundantly year after year, except possibly during late frost years due to its early flowering.
The fruit of the peartree ‘Summercrisp’ is summer-harvested, mildly sweet, and crisp, almost like an Asian pear. It is picked early when a red blush appears on the chartreuse green background, best enjoyed before full ripening. Although it can be stored for up to two months, it’s most appreciated fresh while still crunchy, or transformed into tarts or preserves, where it maintains its shape.
Découverte et observée depuis les années 30, on peut maintenant dire que ce cultivar à croissance rapide et plutôt verticale est doté d’une longue espérance de vie découlant d’un bon arsenal de résistance aux maladies.
