Pear tree 'Summercrisp'
Pyrus communis
5 m       5 m      Hardiness zone 3

Pear trees (Pyrus communis) are generally easier to grow than other commercial fruits and are a good choice for heavy clay soils. The pear tree ‘Summercrisp’ produces abundantly year after year, except possibly during late frost years due to its early flowering.

The fruit of the pear tree ‘Summercrisp’ is summer-harvested, mildly sweet, and crisp, almost like an Asian pear. It is picked early when a red blush appears on the chartreuse green background, best enjoyed before full ripening. Although it can be stored for up to two months, it’s most appreciated fresh while still crunchy, or transformed into tarts or preserves, where it maintains its shape.

Discovered and observed since the 1930s, this cultivar is now known for its fast growth, somewhat vertical habit, and long lifespan due to its strong resistance to diseases.
