Strawberry alpine yellow
Fragaria vesca sempiflorans
0,25 m       0,4 m      Hardiness zone 4

The strawberry alpine yellow (Fragaria vesca sempiflorans) offers an old strawberry that stands out from all others by concentrating its sugars in a small, elongated strawberry, crushing any hint of acidity, with aromas candied by the sun. The sulphurous scents of the garlic family have a repellent effect on diseases and harmful insects of the strawberry plant. Plant a border that will not invade you with stolons, alternating with Egyptian onions, chives, and other alliaceae allies.

The berries ripen slowly, a few at a time, the harvest will perfume your summer every day, spreading like jam until the first frost. Unless you have a few rows, this will not be your processing strawberry, since unless you accumulate some in the freezer or dryer, it will serve more your spontaneous desires. Since it escapes mystified birds, while to our knowledge, squirrels and dogs only fight over red strawberries, you will have the leisure to let them ripen, until the seeds of the white strawberry turn yellow, indicating the peak for picking. Its constant flowering is a balm for native pollinators. Divide the strawberry alpine yellow every three years to optimize its productive vigor. It is adapted to growing in pots.

Those that we offer you are produced by the pioneer of the yellow strawberry, our friend for life, Jean-Philippe Alie of L’Ouvre-Cœur, in the neighboring region, Les Laurentides, where Paysage gourmand still has some good roots! Hardy, it acclimatizes to the alpine cold. The plants are selected for their fruits, larger than the average alpine strawberry and for their increased resistance to drought.

Our inventories are updated daily. If the quantities are lower than your needs, do not hesitate to contact us by email at pepiniere@paysagegourmand.ca or by phone at 450-834-1919 ext. #2.
