Water avens
Geum rivale
A decoction of the roots of water avens (Geum rivale) creates a drink discovered by the Native Americans, a substitute for hot chocolate! Fresh or dried, sometimes in powder form, they season various sweet preparations, including some local specialty beers.
Exceptional for its ability in heavy, soggy, marshy soils, water avens can also be satisfied with average soils, even slightly acidic, as long as it does not dry out. A dream candidate for bordering a body of water, a pond, a stream, brightening them with flowers from the rose family, delicate drooping bells, intriguing, with varied tones of apricot. Riparian strips. Native.
