Yarrow 'Cloth of Gold'
Achillea filipendulina
1.2 m       0.8 m      Hardiness zone 2

Yarrow ‘Cloth of Gold’ (Achillea filipendulina), with its rich lace leaves, brings lightness to your flowerbeds.

A few young leaves, in mixed salad, complicate the flavors with bitterness and refinement. With a texture similar to ferns, they offer more than their foliage, which is pretty in itself. In the middle of summer, its inflorescences float above like a stretched gold fabric composed of a multitude of large plateaus, veritable landing strips freshly painted yellow for pollinators. The flowers, even dry, remain interesting until the snow covers them. The corymbose flowers, seeded into gold nuggets to better dose their bitterness, still honeyed and slightly lemony, bring a certain refinement to rich and fatty dishes, aiding digestion. It can be used like hops, in craft brews, helping to preserve beer, among other things.

Coming from the Caucasus Mountains, yarrow ‘Cloth of Gold’ will grow in any type of well-drained soil, will flower in poor soils and will forgive any neglect. Divide the tillers after 3 to 5 years to maintain their flowering vigor. Deer and most animals do not appreciate it as much as we do.
